Popsicle Chain Reaction is a fun experiment where kids can build a huge chain of popsicles and lock it using a specific pattern.

 

Kids can learn about energy conversion through this experiment and how the pattern holds the chain without any binding element.

What to Do ! – Instructions

1. Place the first two popsicles in a way that it forms an ‘X’.
2. Place the third popsicle under the 1^st popsicle and 4^th one over the 3^rd one and under the 2^nd
3. Place the 5^th popsicle over the 4^th popsicle and under the one parallel to the 4^th Place pressure on the 5^th popsicle.
4. Place the 6^th popsicle over the 5^th popsicle and under the one parallel to the 5^th
5. Place the 7^th popsicle over the 6^th popsicle and under the one parallel to the 6^th
6. Continue this pattern to make a longer chain.

Working Principle of Popsicle Chain :

When one popsicle is placed over the second popsicle and under the one parallel to the second popsicle, the entire chain remains secure. It is important to apply pressure on the last popsicle to hold the potential energy. This pattern locks the entire chain.

Once the chain is formed, potential energy gets accumulated in the popsicles. But as soon as the last popsicle is removed from the chain the popsicles fly off and the potential energy gets converted to kinetic energy.
