Dry Ice Boo Bubbles Experiment

Dry Ice Boo Bubbles Experiment

Dry Ice Boo Bubbles is a very interesting experiment where kids can create bubbles using dry ice and soap. Dry ice is generally used to freeze products instantly.

Dry ice is frozen carbon dioxide which turns directly into carbon dioxide gas when dropped in warm water. Let’s trap this gas inside a soap bubble!

Working Principle of Dry Ice Boo Bubble :

In this experiment, we add warm water to dry ice. Dry ice is carbon dioxide (CO)  in solid state. When it is added to warm water it turns to carbon dioxide gas instantly. Dry ice turns directly into gas without going through the liquid phase, this process is called ‘sublimation’. When we dip the pipe into the soap solution, the gas coming out of the pipe pushes a bubble out when it comes in contact with the soap solution. The bubbles contain the gas coming out of the pipe that is carbon dioxide. As a result, they look smoky and let’s call them boo bubbles!

You’ve always seen transparent bubbles but with this experiment you have white smoky bubbles! Try bouncing them or bursting the bubbles to see if the gas comes out.
