Chemistry Rocket

Chemistry RocketChemistry Rocket is a fun science experiment for kids to do at home which shows how easily you can construct your own home-made rocket, with simple materials. It is the most fun way to teach kids about the different parts of a rocket.

Safety First! Adult Supervision Required. Don’t Eat/Drink your Experiments, Wear safety goggles where ever required

Materials and tools required.

In the box

  • Colored tape
  • Plastic balls
  • Rocket making sheet
  • Transparent tape

What to Do!

  1. Pick up your rocket making sheet.
  2. Cut the rocket body along the marks using scissors.
  3. You will get a rectangular sheet as shown in the video.
  4. Roll the rectangular sheet in such a way so that one ends meets with the dotted line on the sheet.
  5. Use transparent tape to join the two ends.
  6. Cut a long strip of transparent tape and paste it.
  7. Let’s make the nose-cone of the rocket. Attach the ping-pong ball at one end and paste it with a tape.
  8. Your rocket-body with nose-cone is ready.
  9. Cut the rocket fins from the rocket making sheet.
  10. Your fin cut-out is ready.
  11. Fold the fin cut-out in such a way that the dotted lines overlap.
  12. Continue the folding process till you get a fin structure like this.
  13. Join the two ends and staple it. Your fins are ready.
  14. Decorate the fins by pasting colored tape.
  15. Your rocket body and fins are ready.
  16. Check for air leakage by blowing into the rocket body, if you feel air then seal it with more tape.
  17. Insert the rocket body into the fin structure and paste it using transparent tape

Working Principle of Chemistry Rocket :

In this experiment we are making a rocket by attaching three major parts of a rocket: Rocket Body, Nose-Cone & Fins. Each of these parts has an important role to play.

Rocket body houses the fuel and its cylindrical structure reduces the surface area that is in contact with air, thereby reducing drag.

The function of nose-cone is to reduce air friction. The kids will use a dome-shaped nose-cone which has lesser surface area and reduces the drag.

Fins are added to increase the stability of the rocket, during its flight. Fins produce an additional force called ‘lift’ that helps in the flight and
