Blood Spatter Analysis : Activity for Kids from Forensic Science Kit

Blood Spatter is one of the tests of the Forensic Kit for Kids – which would lead us to the Prime Suspect of the Murder at the Crime Scene Investigation activity. Blood spatters were found at the crime scene. Now, you have to use the various weapons that might have been used to kill the victim. Create the pattern with all the weapons given to you and compare it with the crime scene pattern.

Step 1:  Choose the corner of a table

Step 2: Stick a firm white board.

Step 3: Pour the entire glass of blood in the plate.

Step 4: Soak the sponge in the fake blood.

Step 5: Keep the plate near to the sheet and hit the sponge with a bat. Then Change the Sheet and Hit with other possible weapons like Knife as show in the Video Tutorial above.

Step 6:  Look at the pattern formed on the Sheets and Compare to come to a Conclusion. Fill your investigation Report.

Blood Spatter Analysis :

In this Forensic Science Experiment, you have to analyze the blood spatters and find out the weapon used.

  • The spattering of blood depends on the weapon used.
  • As the surface area of the weapon used increases, the spattering of blood droplet becomes wider.
  • For e.g.: Knife has a smaller surface area. Hence, the width of the spatter is smaller compared to a rod or a bat.
  • The angle at which the weapon hits also affects the blood spatter.
  • If it’s 90 degrees then the Blood strain appears to be circular. As the angle decreases, the drop looks elongated.
